Aspiring to Achieve the Curved, Toned Body of a Kardashian? Here's How

According to a recent Life & Style magazine article, the Kardashian (and Jenner) sisters each follow very different diet and exercise routines to maintain their signature curves. Love them or hate them, all of the sisters are in great shape. They also work hard at it. So how do they do it? We asked Debi, a trainer at Body Machine Fitness in Plano, to weigh in.

Embrace your individuality

If you check out a group photo of the sisters, you’ll notice both striking similarities and distinct differences between Kim, Kourtney, Khloe, Kendall and Kylie. While workouts can be customized to sculpt specific parts of the body, Debi always encourages clients to: “Focus on becoming your best self first.”

As she explains, “Like the Kardashian sisters, we’re all different. We have different shapes and different genes. If you have specific goals for your body, it’s important to focus on those goals and not somebody else’s. If you want to build your booty or whittle your waist, we can show you how. Just keep in mind that this is YOUR journey, and you need to seek happiness along the way. You won’t be happy if you’re trying to be someone else.”


Turn to a trainer – and technology – for motivation and insight

Don’t rely on cardio alone

If you want to get fit faster and define your curves, cardio alone won’t do the trick. Resistance training is an absolute necessity if you want to make drastic changes to the shape and strength of your body.

As Debi explains, “Our classes include super-efficient HIIT (high-intensity interval training) mixed with weight and resistance training. Studies show that weight training and HIIT workouts helps you preserve hard-earned muscles while ensuring most of the weight lost comes from fat stores. That’s a win-win! Plus, our Plano group fitness classes and DJ’s playlist change every day. You work on different parts of the body and muscles daily, so the body has time to recover, and you’ll never get bored.”

Debi, a busy mom of four, also loves the BMF HIIT-resistance training combo, because, she’s personally found that she can stay fit, tone her muscles and feel younger, while working out less.

“HIIT stimulates production of your human growth hormone (HGH) by up to 450 percent during the 24 hours after you finish your workout. This is great news since HGH is not only responsible for increased caloric burn, but it also slows down the aging process, making you feel younger both inside and out,” explains Debi.

Strive to eat clean and always refuel post-workout

While exercising consistently is essential for a healthy lifestyle, watching what you eat – like the Kardashians – also plays a key role. When it comes to eating healthy, Debi has a “flexitarian” point of view. “Everyone is different, so as long as you’re making smart, healthy choices, do what works for you.”

While she’s happy to share healthy eating advice, Debi’s biggest tip is “keep it clean.” As she explains, “If you eat a clean diet 80 percent of the time, you will see results.

Don’t let yourself feel deprived, otherwise, you’ll end up binging. It’s OK to have a little piece of chocolate or a cheat meal, just don’t blow the whole day. Get back on track with the next meal and don’t beat yourself up.”

It’s also important to refuel immediately following a high-intensity workout. According to Debi, “During that 30-minute window, be sure to refuel your body so it’s prepared for the next workout.
